Another big treasure trophy I stumble upon - I came across this site a number of times in the last 40 years. It didn't look like a place I would want to hang out in. Oh yes, there are a few good things here and there. But most of the time, it is more dooms and grooms. So I picked up my feet and hurried on.
But this time, as I flipped through the pages, looking for a place to rest my eyes and soul. I came upon this forgotten era. Somehow, it looks enticing to me, so I left my previous impression behind to rediscover it. There is one favorite place in it that I always refer to in Jeremiah 29:11 when God says, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." It anchor my soul securely no matter what comes. I don't know how many times I have shared it with others without understand the backdrop.
It was a period of time when the people turned their back on God in the promised land and chased after many other things. They made it a norm to spread the notion that if anyone is not in the trend, they are backward and ignorant, they should be ignored, ostracized and treated with comtempt. They would not listen or heed to any warning from God's messangers. At best, they had a religious front to hide themselves behind, but their hearts are far from God, who, kept on calling out to them, waiting for their return. At last, even his paitence was wearing thin. He let them fall into their own snares. He bore the pain of seeing them wallowing in their own miseries and defeats by the schemes they had devised. Dire consequences came upon them one after another, calamities were all around them.
Does it sound familiar when we look around? Ever since the second world war, the western world has been binging on sensual gratification. Money and greed become the idols and motivation of most of the endeavors. Faith and dependence on the God dissipated when men think we can solve all problems by science. Trace of virtues from the forefathers is eroded by the tide of time. Young generations think the world owe them everything. One only need to turn on the tv to find out immorality is rampant in our society. And then there is climate change created by the creation of man and the abuse of mother nature. The rest of the world is trying to catch up with
what they've missed materially. Can this little planet carry all the heavy punches?
Finally, Wall Street is crumbling, EU is falling, protestors are in every big cities. Natural disater follows it's heels one after another around the world. Shoppers are rushing into the stores to get the best deals for Black Friday Sale..... "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my Word abides forever." says the Lord.
While all these are going on, God is still calling out to his wayward children to come home. His anger may last for a moment but his love for us is everlasting. Afterall, He gave up everything in order to be among us!
