Bill Porter, born with cerebral palsy, deemed unemployable with his physical limitation by many, backed by his mother's encouragement, asked to take on the door to door sale of the worst productive part of the town and got the job in the 1960s. Through his persistence, informative spirit and good nature. He established his sales with good service and humor. After his mother turned ill and went to live in an care home, Bill struggled to take care of the home and his own job for 10 years until his doctor warned him of his health.

Then he hired a student to ease off his load a bit. Meanwhile he became a legend in the neighborhood of his sale area by being a friend, listening to his clients' stories without being judgemental and helping them without even letting them know. After 20 years, he got a new boss in the company, who did not even want to keep him in the company because he wanted to switch to the new technology of telemarketing. But at the company's award night, Bill surprised him by winning the best salesman's award.

Another ten years went by. Bill's student house keeper graduated from university, married and had a family. She and her husband treated Bill like part of their family. When Bill was not able to keep his house anymore. They bought the house and asked him to lease it back for an amount he could afford. Bill was furious at their generority because he did not want them to help him out. When she saw how he struggled with his work load and did the paper work for him for his business. He was mad too because he did not want to become dependent on her. He was just happy to go out and about his daily business and felt still being useful to the society and living with a purpose.
