I had wanted a pink star magnolia this year to replace my pink saucer magnolia at the front this spring. My feeling was so strong about it until I saw the price at the nursery. Then I had a second thought, that it won't look nice to have two so close on the same street. Babara's is big and gorgeous. So I cancelled the idea, plus there was not even one at Cloverdale fleamarket. For some reason, they are well sought after, only the white stars are left.
I went shopping at Super Store, just nosed around their garden centre. I didn't expect much.
Lo and behold, their were a bunch of little magnolia's of various kinds. But they all had the same lables. None of them say it is a pink star. and if there is no flower, it is impossible to tell the difference by the leaves. Then I spoted a taller one with the pink star flower, I was more than happy when I saw the price. It was half of what I have seen before. Well, it is pretty hard to resist this one. Thank you Lord! Now it is in my back garden. No competition.
Went to Cloverdale markets again. Found all kinds of neat plants to improve my lot. Worked like a horse for two days switching plant locations, until every muscle of my body screams. Whether the plants will agree or not, I shall see.
